by heathermorrow· February 26, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Mini Sessions, Studio, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: kansas city portrait studio, mini sessions
mini sessions with these kiddos are always beyond amazing! their mama never ceases to amaze me with her killer style and the kids…well, they’re a photographer’s dream. always so cooperative and truly the sweetest. i love how over the top this hat is! and would you believe their mama made it? she’s super stylish and she’s super talented. she could write a book on what to wear for family photos. i think i may have her dress my crew for our next family portrait session! both heidi and i are crazy about animal print so you know we couldn’t pass up the zebra chair. it’s always great to hang with you and the kids, heidi! i just love collaborating with you and i can’t wait to see what you come up with next time! _____ we are currently booking spring and summer mini sessions. email us or call 913.787.2527 to schedule yours today!

the simons – dallas family photographer

by heathermorrow· October 25, 2013· in Babies and Kids, Families· 0 comments tags: dallas, dallas family photographer
celeste and i grew up together. and by grew up i don’t mean we’ve known each other since we were kids, but rather, we met in our 20s. we were young, single girls living in the big D and loving life. we’ve seen each other through boyfriends, breakups, engagements, weddings, pregnancies and now motherhood. that’s what i mean when i say we grew up together. after nearly 6 years in dallas i moved back home to kansas city but we’ve remained friends and i’ve loved seeing her fall into the role of wife and mom. she’s been blessed with a husband who adores her and two beautiful, healthy children. on a recent visit to dallas i had the honor of capturing family portraits for her and as you can see, we had a blast! love you and your precious family, cecil! xoxox, H i’ll be back in dallas november 2-3 and have time to squeeze in a session or two. call or email me for details.

priceless connections

priceless words from a client who moved out of state, “after six years i just can’t imagine having anyone else photograph my kids.” i’m in dallas this weekend for her youngest daughter’s one year session. i loved walking in to her home and seeing it decorated with over six years of my work. Your browser does not support the video tag it’s been so fun to watch these kids grow up and to watch their family grow. we’ve formed such a special friendship and i’m honored that they’ve chosen to have me continue to document their family. it’s a good thing there’s an empty wall across from this one because we’ll be adding to it very soon! whether you’ve moved away from kansas city or you’re taking a trip and want a portrait session in a different city, don’t hesitate to call me. travel sessions are so much fun!

she knows i love her – the importance of photographing your children

by heathermorrow· April 09, 2013· in My Peeps, Randomness· 1 comments tags: decorating with family photos, photographing your loved ones
i get a lot of grief from my kids and my husband (and even some of my friends) over my seemingly endless clicking of the shutter. but i don’t let it get to me. i’ve read articles that claim decorating with family photos can help boost a child’s self esteem. some say placing family photos in your home subconsciously increases feelings of belonging, connectedness and importance. and i believe that it’s true. yesterday our youngest daughter turned nine. i blogged about her birthday and shared some of my favorite pictures from the last nine years on our family blog. lucee’s life has been filled with so many amazing moments i hope i will never forget. and thanks to the thousands and thousands of photos i’ve taken i’m able to share some of those moments with her. as i was tucking her in last night i grabbed the ipad and showed her the post. i figured she’d get a kick out of seeing all those pictures together in one place but as she scrolled down reviewing each set of pictures she began to cry. those tears quickly turned to a full on sob. i lifted her sweet little dimpled chin and asked […]

style friday: patterned pants, please

by heathermorrow· March 29, 2013· in Style· 0 comments tags: animal print, chasing davies, floral print, geometric print, halls, hallskc, patterned pants, spring 2013, style friday, tribal print
happy friday, all! it finally feels like spring in kc and it’s about time. for sping13 we’re crazy over patterns. after taking much greif (cough, cough, chad.) jordan decided to ask a stylist on set if patterned pants really were too much…. turns out that she confirmed our thoughts about how much they rocked and that confirmation inspired a major pinning spree. there are several ways to pull off patterned pants. we’ve pinned some of our favorites. let’s face it…they rock. and you will too, if you wear them. they scream confidence and cool! we’ve pinned (and fallen head over heels for) florals, polka dot, animal prints, geometrics, tribal prints and more! with so many options you’ll find a pair you can dress up or dress down. now get out and by yourself a pair. halls kansas city has some great options and if you don’t already follow them in instagram, you should! their feed is full spring fashion and loads of pattern right now. oh, and our good friend meg at chasing davies recently posted about a pair of perfect patterned pants. and what’s better than a pair of patterned pants? REVERSIBLE patterned pants! oh, yes! these are a must see. head over to meg’s blog to check them out. beauty and the blizzard

by heathermorrow· February 26, 2013· in Randomness· 0 comments tags: 2013, blizzard of oz, instagram, iphone5, iphoneography, kansas city, kansas city snow, photo safari, photo walk, snow
i am most certainly not a morning person yet i find myself wide awake at 5:00 this morning. the view from my bedroom window is so spectacular right now that i can’t possibly close my eyes and fall back asleep. instead, i’m sitting in my favorite chair and soaking in the silence and beauty of another snowfall. the trees are beginning to get weighed down. one of the branches in our back yard is nearing the ground. i am by no means a landscape photographer but i absolutely love photographing the snow. on new years eve rilee and i decided to pile on our snow gear and go on a photo walk. here are my images from that snowfall. all of these photos were taken with the iphone 5 and processed with instagram. it’s become a tradition to take a photo walk each time we get snow. i’ll post my images from last week’s snowfall later on and i’m sure the girls and i will head out for another walk sometime today but right now i think it’s time for a nap. happy snow day, everyone! stay warm and stay safe.

swimwear solution for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· July 06, 2012· in Commercial and Editorial, Models, Shopping· 0 comments tags: envy salon, exposure inc., her life magazine, kansas city fashion photography, melissa evans, melissa richardson, nicole davis, swimsuit shopping, swimwear solution
have you seen the current issue of her life magazine? the july 2012 trendsetter is swimwear solution. having never photographed swimwear before, i was really excited about the possibilities for this fashion shoot. i wasn’t necessarily excited about our 6:00am call time, but our model, melissa, and the hair and makeup team were all troopers and that beautiful sunrise light was sooooo worth waking up and leaving the house before starbucks even opened. (by the way, shouldn’t that be against the law?) makeup artist melissa evans gave our model that signature sun-kissed summer glow and hair stylist nicole davis really rocked out her amazing hair. aren’t these two retro-inspired swimsuits fabulous? i loved the striped coral cover up and how flirty is this floral tankini? neon is so hot for summer and these two bikinis are no exception. my favorite swimsuit, the purple betsey johnson bikini, paired with the brushed gold necklace and earrings made for my favorite shot of the day. if you know me or have ever shot with me you can only imagine the squeal i let out as i clicked the shutter on this close-up. melissa is just so fierce! and seriously…who knew kansas city had […]

mini sessions for bo macan

by heathermorrow· July 04, 2012· in Events, Studio· 1 comments tags: bo macan, bone marrow transplant, fundraiser, ipex syndrome, macan family, mini sessions, studio
my dear friend carolyn, whom i’ve known since high school has a 2 1/2 year old son name bo who was diagnosed with ipex syndrome in december 2011. ipex is a very rare genetic disorder and doctors believe a bone marrow transplant will help. on july 15 carolyn, her husband john and all four of their children will be traveling to cincinnati children’s hospital to meet with the team of doctors who will eventually perform bo’s transplant. when bo does have his transplant he and carolyn will have to remain in cincinnati for a minimum of 14 weeks. as you can imagine the macan’s medical and travel expenses are mounting and will continue to do so for quite some time. i snapped this photo of bo (and his twin sister brooklynn) last week. at a glance, you might not know how sick bo truly is. he and brooklynn were born 10 weeks early and sweet bo has spent almost as much time in the hospital as he has out. around the age of 1 he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and has an insulin pump. because bo produces no growth hormone he has a g-tube to receive nutrient rich […]
