by heathermorrow· September 12, 2013· in Editorial, Her Life Magazine, My Favorite Things, Shopping, Style· 0 comments tags: brenda watts, donna's dress shop, double take salon, her life magazine, jewelry, melissa evans, sara cramer
by now you may have seen the september issue of her life magazine featuring the stunning sara cramer on the cover. sara is the designer and creator of the amazing jewelry you see her wearing on the cover. i’ve peeped a lot of jewelry in my day and i’ve never seen anything even close to what sara creates. this is a shoot i was really excited about. one of the things i love most about shooting for her life magazine is that i get to connect with so many incredible kansas city women. sara is a powerful and inspiring female entrepreneurs. it’s so nice to meet other females who are following their passion and making a living doing what they love. we started off at sara’s crossroads live/work studio where brenda watts of double take salon did hair and melissa evans did makeup. while sara was being prepped for the shoot i couldn’t help but gawk at the beautiful collection of jewelry that fills her studio. it’s more than just jewelry – it’s art. art that pulls you in with it’s beautiful patterns, each created by hand. the piece that sara wore for the cover took over a week to produce, each […]

ashley phelps for her life magazine

wow, am i behind in blogging…but what’s new? i loved shooting the july 2013 cover of her life magazine. cover girl ashley phelps is living with polycystic kidney disease but she’s fighting hard to kick it to the curb. ashley and i visited our friends at clique boutique to select her wardrobe and then, because i love styling almost as much as photographing, we hit h&m and picked up wardrobe for the rest of the family. by the way, did you hear you can now shop h&m online and that they’ve launched a crazy cool home collection? anyway, back to ashley…based on ashley’s outward appearance one might never know that she is sick. or just how sick she is. she’s endured numerous surgeries, seizures, a collapsed lung, an aneurysm and lives with a tremendous amount of pain. on a scale of one to ten, her pain is at a level of seven to eight most days. SEVEN to EIGHT! i’m the mom of two girls ages 9 and 10. i’m perfectly healthy and some days it’s a challenge for me to keep up with them. thinking of the challenges ashley faces in keeping up with and caring for her 3 […]

have you seen the june issue of her life magazine? it features a fashion shoot i’m really proud of. the stars were most definitely aligned on this one and it all came together just the way i wanted.  the impeccable wardrobe is from clique boutique in prairie village. i was able to book model angela lyman from exposure, inc.. we had our usual dream team of makeup artist melissa evans and hair stylist crystal wisniewski from soffia via. we shot at what is seriously the cutest little coffee shop in all of kansas city – hi hat coffee in westwood. and i even sweet talked my friend tricia in to assisting me. thanks, tricia! here’s a little breakdown of each look. on the left is a white + warren sleeveless dress with a turquoise necklace (that i’m coveting so hard) by jetcouture jewels, formerly known as jet lag jewels. (my anniversary is coming up…hint, hint, mr. morrow!) and on the right is the trina turk sangria dress with vintage pearl hoops and a bracelet, both from 74 harley street. jetcouture jewels and 74 harley street are lines i adore and both are designed and produced right here in kansas city! how can you not love this pink […]

style friday – bring it on, spring!

by heathermorrow· April 26, 2013· in Editorial, Her Life Magazine, Style· 0 comments tags: her life magazine, kansas city fashion photographer, kansas city shopping, lavish boutique, melissa evans, soffia via, spring style, style friday
it’s finally friday! the weather in kansas city has included everything from snow to sunshine to rain this week. i can’t quite pack up my fall/winter clothes yet but i’m dying to bust out my spring wardrobe and this shoot for the april issue of her life magazine didn’t help. seeing everything lavish boutique has for spring and summer just made me long for warmer weather even more. i’m loving all the bright colors and i’m so happy to see that the neon craze isn’t over yet. i’m slightly obsessed with this darling cream dress and the way we accessorized it. i can’t get enough of bright colors paired with animal prints. and the high curly ponytail…such a fresh look for spring. and can we just talk about this stunning statement necklace for a minute? i was at lavish working with angel to pull wardrobe for the shoot when i spotted it from across the store. it stopped me in my tracks. (you know me…easily distracted by all things shiny.) i told angel we simply HAD to photograph this necklace and that she might as well tell me the price because once i photographed it i had no intention of returning it. i’ve […]

a girl and her beloved horse – tiffany’s senior portraits

by heathermorrow· March 21, 2013· in Seniors, Studio· 0 comments tags: girl with a horse, melissa evans, senior portraits
meet my darling cousin tiffany, a class of 2013 senior. i adore her and everything about her senior portrait session! the fabulous melissa evans did tiffany’s hair and makeup. we started off with some studio portraits on the purple velvet sofa everyone loves. then we headed outside for some urban senior portraits.  and we ended our session at tiffany’s family farm with her beloved horse winnie. i’ve photographed several seniors with their horses and none were as cooperative as winnie. i love that first image so much. winnie seems so protective.  this last series was taken the day i photographed tiffany’s best friend ashley – she tagged along for some bff portraits that day and i couldn’t resist snappig a few shots of tiffany while ashley was changing. sweet tiffany, i can’t wait to see where life takes you after graduation. the whole world is at your fingertips and i know that no matter where the road leads, you’ll find success. lots of love, H if you’re a 2013 or 2014 senior and you go to school with tiffany, email or call us at 913.787.2527 to find out how you can save up to $200 on your own senior portrait session! happy friday, fashionistas! have you seen the march issue of her life magazine? this month’s trendsetter is b | e boutique. i had so much fun shooting prom dresses in my studio. check out some of the latest trends from designers like sherri hill, love 16 by enzoani, night moves, jovani and tony bowls. as a girl who has always wished the was alive during the roaring 20s, i’m madly in love with the navy blue fringe dress and the flapper vibe it has. this gorgeous white gown – to die for. and i couldn’t resist a close up of beautiful alea. she’s flawless. who doesn’t love a little bit (or a lot) of sparkle? and the long pink gown was beautiful by itself but when i spotted that silver beaded belt i knew it would provide the perfect finishing touch. last time i shot for b | e boutique i actually bought that same belt in white and i wear it quite a bit. a couple of behind the scenes shots. thanks to our model alea saunders of exposure, inc., melissa evans for her fabulous makeup skills and heidi bowles and crystal wisniewski of soffia via for working their hair magic. b | […]

master gardener wendy clay for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· March 09, 2013· in Editorial, Her Life Magazine, Shopping· 0 comments tags: chasing davies, family tree nursery, halls kansas city, her life magazine, master gardener, melissa evans, wendy clay
i’m so happy that the march issue of her life magazine is finally out and i can share these images. i photographed master gardener wendy clay at family tree nursery on one of the coldest days of the year. shooting inside the temperature controlled greenhouse was amazing! we all decided to pretend it was spring, even if only for a few hours. the light in the greenhouse was phenomenal and the color….don’t even get my started on the color. you can see for yourself how amazing it was, especially after drudging through these last few cold wintery months. we had the usual suspects working together – melissa evans for makeup and amber sexton of double take salon for hair – but we also had someone new this time. we were lucky enough to score the wardrobe styling services of one of my favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey of chasing davies. be sure to check out meg’s blog for more details on the wardrobe provided by halls kansas city and some behind the scenes photos as well! i loved shooting wendy and learning about her passion for gardening. i find myself in awe of those with a green thumb. swimwear solution for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· July 06, 2012· in Commercial and Editorial, Models, Shopping· 0 comments tags: envy salon, exposure inc., her life magazine, kansas city fashion photography, melissa evans, melissa richardson, nicole davis, swimsuit shopping, swimwear solution
have you seen the current issue of her life magazine? the july 2012 trendsetter is swimwear solution. having never photographed swimwear before, i was really excited about the possibilities for this fashion shoot. i wasn’t necessarily excited about our 6:00am call time, but our model, melissa, and the hair and makeup team were all troopers and that beautiful sunrise light was sooooo worth waking up and leaving the house before starbucks even opened. (by the way, shouldn’t that be against the law?) makeup artist melissa evans gave our model that signature sun-kissed summer glow and hair stylist nicole davis really rocked out her amazing hair. aren’t these two retro-inspired swimsuits fabulous? i loved the striped coral cover up and how flirty is this floral tankini? neon is so hot for summer and these two bikinis are no exception. my favorite swimsuit, the purple betsey johnson bikini, paired with the brushed gold necklace and earrings made for my favorite shot of the day. if you know me or have ever shot with me you can only imagine the squeal i let out as i clicked the shutter on this close-up. melissa is just so fierce! and seriously…who knew kansas city had […]

Her Life Magazine August Trendsetter | Clique Boutique

by heathermorrow· August 02, 2011· in Commercial and Editorial, Models, Shopping· 0 comments tags: 74 harley street, clique boutique, exposure inc., heather morrow, her life magazine, herlife, hocus focus, jet lag jewels, kansas city fashion, kansas city fashion photographer, kansas city photographer, kansas photographer, me&ro, melissa evans, melissa evans makeup artist, missouri photographer, prairie village shopping center, the village shops, trendsetter
It's finally August and I can share another Her Life Magazine Trendsetter shoot with everyone. I swear the wait from shoot to publication time nearly kills me.  The August issue features Clique Boutique, a lovely little gem in the The Village. Clique is relatively new so I stopped in a couple of weeks before the shoot to check it out. I hadn't even make it in the door before my jaw hit the floor. Clique is filled with racks of stunning dresses and shelves of amazing handbags, but the jewelry…oh the gigantic, glorious jewelry, was what really pulled me in. (This is where we insert our first Rachel Zoe I DIE moment.) I'm such a jewelry hound and for me the bigger and bolder, the better. This first piece from Jet Lag Jewels was insane!  Loved the earrings from 74 Harley Street and the Jet Lag Jewels bracelet. And this 74 Harley Street Necklace was amazing. Rachel Zoe would definitely die. TWICE.  Clique also carries Me&Ro, which I love.  And then there's the Jet Lag Jewels turquoise necklace. Can you ever have too much turquoise? Don't answer that.  This leather cut-out dress was amazing! I wish I would have taken a close-up. The detail […]

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am to be shooting for Her Life Magazine again! Her Life is a local women's magazine all about keeping women connected and throughout the year and a half I shot for them I made some truly amazing connections. I met and photographed so many incredible, inspirational women whom I still keep in touch with today.  This time around I'm shooting the Her Life Trendsetter. I love fashion and I love working with models so Trendsetter is a perfect fit for me. I'll be alternating months with my dear friend and fellow photographer Tracy Routh. When I'm not shooting I'll be assisting her and vice versa. Tracy and I have know each other for years. We work so well together and it's so fun to collaborate on shoots like this. Here are the images that appear in the June issue along with a few other favorites. (And don't think for two seconds that I didn't go buy these shoes after our shoot. LOVE THEM!) Wardrobe : Nuance Boutique, 11144 South Lone Elm Road in Olathe, Kansas Model : Jayden of Exposure, Inc. Hair and Makeup : Melissa Evans of Melissa Evans Beauty Wardrobe […]
