hometown style – my favorite kansas city tees for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· January 27, 2015· in Editorial, Her Life Magazine, Local, My Favorite Things, Shopping· 0 comments tags: baldwin, bandwagon merchandise, charlie hustle, collar for collar, exposure model and talent agency, heather morrow, her life magazine, hocus focus, kansas city hair stylist erica johnson, kansas city makeup artist paige pelfrey, kansas city shirts, kansas city tee, kc clothing, kc shirts, made in kc, model harrison quinn, normal human, ocean & sea, raygun shirts, sandlot goods
i loved kansas city before kansas city was cool and that’s probably why i had so much fun putting this shoot together. i rounded up a collection of my favorite kansas city shirts for the january issue of her life magazine. what’s even more fun is that i got to style the whole shoot too. model harrison quinn brought his own pants and shoes and much of what model paige pelfrey is wearing came from my own closet. one of the first to make my list is raygun. i’ve been buying raygun shirts online for years and i was thrilled when they opened a brick and mortar shop here in kansas city. as a native kansas citian i find that people who don’t live here are often confused by the whole kansas city, kansas/kansas city, missouri thing. there’s no better way to sum it up than with this too much city for one state tee. next up is charlie hustle. if you haven’t heard of charlie hustle, there’s a chance you’ve been living under a rock. paul rudd proudly rocked a charlie hustle shirt when our kansas city royals were in the world series and the kc heart tank i own is a […]

715 days

by heathermorrow· September 24, 2012· in Babies and Kids, Families· 0 comments tags: hocus focus, jenny matthews, kansas city baby photographer, kansas city newborn photographer, one year portraits, two year portraits
what a difference 715 days can make! there’s nothing i love more than watching babies grow, especially this one, who was such a miracle for her mama and daddy. they waited and wished and prayed for her. oh, how they prayed for her! i met julianne for her newborn photos when she was two weeks old and the amount of joy she brought to her parents lives is nearly indescribable. she was most certainly a blessing from above. i saw her again for her one year portraits and it was obvious matthew and jenny had fallen madly in love with their precious little girl. and i was lucky enough to see her for another important milestone yesterday – it was the day before her second birthday. it’s amazing to see how much she’s grown. we laughed and played and walked and talked about all of her favorite things yesterday. what a difference 715 days can make! jules is a happy, healthy, busy – and i do mean busy – two year old now. and in a few months she’ll be a big sister. i couldn’t be happier for this soon-to-be family of four and will anxiously await the phone call to photograph her […]

rebecca – senior portraits

by heathermorrow· March 10, 2012· in Seniors· 3 comments tags: class of 2012, country sessions, girls senior portraits, heather morrow, hocus focus, kansas city photographer, kansas city senior portraits, urban senior portraits
this is undoubtably one of the most fun kansas city senior portrait sessions i’ve done. rebecca, one of our 2012 senior spokesmodels, is all smiles and her laugh is truly contagious. after hair and makeup by the fabulous michele taylor, we kicked off rebecca’s session in the kansas city river market and i loved her classic outfit. such a timeless choice for senior pictures. we laughed a lot during this session. i walked away on cloud nine – not only because i knew we captured some amazing images, but because rebecca is just really fun to be around. and when she laughs – she really laughs. she doesn’t hold back in front of the camera – which makes her a photographer’s dream. i loved the vintage vibe of this yellow dress and the way it looked with all the ivy along the fence. after the river market, we headed out to my favorite gravel road where rebecca continued to rock it. can you believe she was nervous about her session? she’s such a natural. she brought such a great range of clothes for senior pictures. she had classic, trendy, casual, dressy – her wardrobe was perfect. i’m a sucker for […]

Happy Birthday, Genna!

by heathermorrow· November 07, 2011· in My Peeps· 0 comments tags: genna wissing, heather morrow, hocus focus, intern, kansas city photographer, photography intern
She started out as a client. Then she became an intern. And then she became a friend. Today, she's like family. Most of my client's know her. You've seen her on the blog before. She's often with me at shoots and over the last couple of years she's practically been my right hand. She is such a blessing to me and my business. Her dedication, enthusiasm and creativity are just a few of the many things that make her so amazing.  I adore her. My family adores her. And I know all of my clients adore her, too.  Happy 20th Birthday, Genna!  Lots of love,  H

Sneak Peek for Taylor | Kansas City Senior Portraits

There's so much I could say about Taylor but I know she's dying for her sneak peek so I'll save (most of) it for the final post. But let me just tell you that she's one of the most amazing girls I've ever photographed. She's a girl with a vision. She knows what she wants. She's got what it takes to make things happen and I simply adore her.  And I was so excited when she came to me with the idea to shoot at the soccer field, but put her own spin on things. If ever a senior embodied my tag line of "be original. be true. be you." it would be Taylor. Taylor is one of our 2012 Senior Spokesmodels. If you're a 2012 or even 2013 senior ask Taylor how you can save on your own senior portrait session. (hair and makeup by the fabulous Melissa Evans) I absolutely cannot wait to dive in to the rest of this session. There's sure to be a gigantic post to follow so stay tuned.  Happy Monday, H

Sneak Peek for Senior Spokesmodel Alexis

I met Alexis at the grand opening party at Stem and I immediately knew I wanted to photograph her. She's got such a beautiful smile and it's simply contagious. Shooting her senior portraits was beyond fun. Her mom and sister (who she's very close with) tagged along and we even snuck in a family session at the end. Here are a few sneak peeks from our fabulous day together! And her sister Brittany was more than happy to jump in (literally) for a few photos herself! Hopefully I'll be shooting Brittany's senior portraits next year. By the end of the day my cheeks actually hurt from smiling so much. And that's never a bad thing! Love both of these beautiful girls and their family. More to come soon! H

I just worked up a little sneak peek for Sam, our only male senior spokesmodel this year. Sam is a super cool guy. He's confident, talented and adventurous. And even better – he's super comfortable in front of the camera, which made my job so easy.  Check out a few of my favorite shots.  We're still booking seniors from the Class of 2012, but call soon as fall dates are booking up quickly. I've been shooting like crazy lately. More sneak peeks to come soon! Happy Friday! H

Sneak Peek for the Boys | Kansas City Senior Portraits

Last year I shot Katie…and I just realized I never blogged her session! You can check it out on our facebook page, though. She's since become one of my all-time favorite seniors. I've used her on business cards and in print ads. She's beyond fabulous! Yesterday I shot her little brother, Jack, and two of his best friends. And, guess what? They totally rock, too! I rarely shoot senior boys – not because I don't want to…I just always seem to book girls. These guys were amazing!  Here's Jack with his killer blue eyes. And Chris. And Trenton. Thanks for a fun afternoon, guys. And for any teenage girls who may have driven by The Nelson yesterday afternoon while the boys were changing their shirts, you're welcome. Hope you enjoy the sneak peek. More to come so stay tuned!  H
