it’s mini session time! | kansas city family photographer

by heathermorrow· August 27, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, Mini Sessions, My Peeps, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: family portraits, kansas city family photos, mini sessions
fall is just around the corner and i absolutely love this time of year. the buzz of all that back to school energy…seeing everyone’s first day of school pictures on facebook and while it’s hard to imagine with the recent heat wave we’ve had, i always look forward to that feeling of the chill in the air that comes with fall. i’m already dreaming of sweaters and boots and scarves. and pumpkin. oh, the pumpkin. then that 100 degree heat index pulls me back to reality. as a photographer fall is my busiest time of year. family portraits are a staple of my fall schedule but fall is also my busiest season as a mom. rilee is in her second season of competitive softball and lucee is a cheerleader. with sports taking over our weekends my weekend availability is very limited this year because as a mom i don’t want to miss out on these moments with my kids that will pass all too quickly. that being said, we have carved out a few weekends and even a weekday for some family mini sessions. our first date is this coming monday, which is labor day so the kids are all […]

the mccarthy family portraits – kansas city family photographer

by heathermorrow· January 30, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: family portraits, kansas city family photographer, what to wear for family portraits
there are no words to describe how much i adore the mccarthy family. they’ve been in front of my camera before and they’re a dream to photograph. their last family portrait session took place in the studio so we were excited to head outdoors for an urban session this time. mom and dad are gorgeous as are the boys. and they’re the perfect example of what to wear for family portraits. the whole family just has style. for days. but it was the boys personalities that really shined this during this shoot. they were hamming it up for the camera and i couldn’t stop clicking! every time i thought we were done the boys would go and do something else that was too cute to not document! see for yourselves in the bajillion images i’m about to post. love these profile shots! can’t get enough of their brotherly love. i swear this wasn’t planned. mayson just really, really loves his brother. no wonder their kids are so gorgeous. look at these two! what little boy doesn’t love to run and jump into his daddy’s arms? and just when i think this family couldn’t possibly be any happier or any more […]

brittany and bobby – kansas city senior portraits

by heathermorrow· February 27, 2013· in Families, Seniors· 2 comments tags: family portraits, kansas city senior portraits, makeup artist melissa evans, twin senior portraits
i photographed brittany and bobby’s older sister alexis last year. brittany tagged along for alexis’ shoot and the laughter was non-stop. to say that my cheeks and stomach muscles hurt at the end of this session would be the understatement of the century. brittany and alexis are close in age like my own girls and i loved watching them interact. at the end of alexis’ senior portrait session we rallied the troops and snuck in a little family portrait time. i adore how close the whole family is, always laughing, loving and encouraging one another. this will forever be one of my most favorite families to photograph. they are a family with an amazing bond that i truly admire – the kind of bond i hope to have with my own family.  while alexis was beginning her freshman year of college, twins brittany and bobby were beginning their senior year of high school and i was thrilled to get the call to take their senior portraits. i knew this would be another laughter and fun filled session and i was absolutely right. thanks to kansas city makeup artist and hair stylist melissa evans for lending her awesome talents. brittany and bobby, with the love […]

the azorsky family

by heathermorrow· September 22, 2012· in Families· 0 comments tags: family portraits, outdoor family photos, urban family photography
one of the things i love most about family portrait sessions is being able to discover the dynamics of each family – learning how they interact, what makes them close and what keeps them close. one word comes to mind when i think of this family – creativity. bryan and felice are both incredibly creative, successful entrepreneurs and they’ve done an amazing job of fostering creativity in both of their girls – each of them unique in her own way, but with such a passion for life and a deep love of family. it’s always a treat to have the azorskys in front of my camera. the relationship bryan and felice have with each other and with their girls is amazing. it’s the kind of closeness i hope chris and i will continue to have with our girls as they grow. this family truly enjoys spending time together and i think that really shows in their latest family portraits. thanks for a fabulously fun afternoon, azorskys! it’s always a blast to hang out and shoot with you guys. lots of love, H

Anytime Is The Right Time | My Family Portraits

by heathermorrow· February 07, 2011· in My Peeps· 4 comments tags: family portraits, heather morrow, hocus focus, kansas city child photographer, kansas city photographer, kansas family portraits, missouri child photography
Last year, my friend Deb Schwedhelm wrote a blog post and posed the following question: Is there ever a perfect time to have photographs taken of your family? I strongly encourage you to read her entire post, but in short, the answer is no. There is no perfect time. I know Deb would agree that anytime is the right time. We've both heard clients say, I'm too fat or I'm growing my hair out or I'm waiting for my son to get his braces off…and a whole slew of other reasons why NOT to have your family portraits taken.  Life is precious. Every single moment. And you never know what's around the corner so take all those reasons and excuses and throw them out the window. RIGHT. THIS. SECOND. Twenty, thirty, even forty years from now the last thing your kids and grandkids will say when they look at your family photos is, "Wow, I really wish Mom would have lost some weight before this picture was taken". They'll just be happy to have them. And so will you. I'm guilty of it. I hate being in front of the camera. I'm way more comfortable behind it, but for my […]

Roots and Wings | Kansas City Senior Portraits

by heathermorrow· July 10, 2010· in Families, Seniors· 1 comments tags: family portraits, graduation, high school seniors, kansas city, roots and wings, senior portraits
All that stands between the graduate and the top of the ladder is the ladder. ~Author Unknown I've always loved working with families.  Getting to know a family and watching them grow has always been one of my favorite things about what I do; and families with high school seniors are no exception.  Shooting seniors is exciting because so much lies ahead of them.  Where will they go?  What will they do?  What kind of impact will they have on our world?  Their possibilities are endless and I love to see the path that each of them chooses.  This is the second senior I've photographed for this particular family.  The first was Jena in 2006 and then Jami last fall. (I'm a bit behind on my blogging, eh?)   During our very first session in 2006 I felt an instant connection with this family and Mom has become a dear friend and mentor to me.  She's an amazing mother who loves each of her children in different ways that all seem to be exactly what each one of them needs.  I tell her often that I want the kind of relationship with my children that she has with hers.  Open, […]
