a super stylish crew | kansas city family portraits

by heathermorrow· August 18, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, Mini Sessions, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: chasing davies, kansas city family portraits, mini sessions, what to wear for family portraits
it’s been almost two years since my last shoot with kansas city fashion blogger meg davey of chasing davies. i love having her in front of my camera because she has such a great, carefree style. her ability to mix colors and patterns is matched by none. during our fall 2012 family portrait session meg and her husband were a family of three joined by their sweet son liam. this year we did a summer mini session with their newest addition, daughter nora, who we all know is destined to by a fashion force just like her lovely mama. i love they way meg pulled together wardrobe for this shoot. she chose a few fun pops of color, Nike Pas Cher France, added in some texture and pattern and filled the gaps with great neutrals. this lady knows just what to wear for family portraits. check out our favorites from this darling mini session! be sure to head over to meg’s blog for loads of fashion inspiration and the latest on some really fun fashion events happening around town. her blog is a favorite of mine and i just love that she’s based right here in kc! and if you haven’t […]

style friday: patterned pants, please

by heathermorrow· March 29, 2013· in Style· 0 comments tags: animal print, chasing davies, floral print, geometric print, halls, hallskc, patterned pants, spring 2013, style friday, tribal print
happy friday, all! it finally feels like spring in kc and it’s about time. for sping13 we’re crazy over patterns. after taking much greif (cough, cough, chad.) jordan decided to ask a stylist on set if patterned pants really were too much…. turns out that she confirmed our thoughts about how much they rocked and that confirmation inspired a major pinning spree. there are several ways to pull off patterned pants. we’ve pinned some of our favorites. let’s face it…they rock. and you will too, if you wear them. they scream confidence and cool! we’ve pinned (and fallen head over heels for) florals, polka dot, animal prints, geometrics, tribal prints and more! with so many options you’ll find a pair you can dress up or dress down. now get out and by yourself a pair. halls kansas city has some great options and if you don’t already follow them in instagram, you should! their feed is full spring fashion and loads of pattern right now. oh, and our good friend meg at chasing davies recently posted about a pair of perfect patterned pants. and what’s better than a pair of patterned pants? REVERSIBLE patterned pants! oh, yes! these are a must see. head over to meg’s blog to check them out. master gardener wendy clay for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· March 09, 2013· in Editorial, Her Life Magazine, Shopping· 0 comments tags: chasing davies, family tree nursery, halls kansas city, her life magazine, master gardener, melissa evans, wendy clay
i’m so happy that the march issue of her life magazine is finally out and i can share these images. i photographed master gardener wendy clay at family tree nursery on one of the coldest days of the year. shooting inside the temperature controlled greenhouse was amazing! we all decided to pretend it was spring, even if only for a few hours. the light in the greenhouse was phenomenal and the color….don’t even get my started on the color. you can see for yourself how amazing it was, especially after drudging through these last few cold wintery months. we had the usual suspects working together – melissa evans for makeup and amber sexton of double take salon for hair – but we also had someone new this time. we were lucky enough to score the wardrobe styling services of one of my favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey of chasing davies. be sure to check out meg’s blog for more details on the wardrobe provided by halls kansas city and some behind the scenes photos as well! i loved shooting wendy and learning about her passion for gardening. i find myself in awe of those with a green thumb. style friday with meg davey: three steps to styling with patterns

by heathermorrow· February 15, 2013· in Babies and Kids, Families, Shopping, Style, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 1 comments tags: chasing davies, meg davey, mixing patterns, style friday, what to wear for family portraits, what to wear for senior
happy friday everyone! we are excited to have a guest post from one of our favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey.  meg dedicates her blog, chasing davies, to her evolving personal style and her new role as a mama. i’ve always loved meg’s eye for mixing patterns. she really inspires me to think differently about fashion and to see my own wardrobe in a new light. i had the opportunity to photograph meg and her darling little family last fall and as expected i was head over heels for the way the styled herself and her family.   for today’s style friday feature meg has cooked up a fabulous post to share three simple ways to mix and match patterns. i hope you enjoy! –H  Mixing patterns can be a daunting thought and overwhelming for many!  While I don’t know if there is any actual expertise in pattern mixing, I’d like to think I’ve played (and failed) with styling multiple patterns to know a thing or two.  Here are three easy steps to mixing prints. 1. My first piece of advice, just do it.  Play around with different clothing items in a dressing room or in the comfort of your own home […]
