it’s mini session time! | kansas city family photographer

by heathermorrow· August 27, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, Mini Sessions, My Peeps, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: family portraits, kansas city family photos, mini sessions
fall is just around the corner and i absolutely love this time of year. the buzz of all that back to school energy…seeing everyone’s first day of school pictures on facebook and while it’s hard to imagine with the recent heat wave we’ve had, i always look forward to that feeling of the chill in the air that comes with fall. i’m already dreaming of sweaters and boots and scarves. and pumpkin. oh, the pumpkin. then that 100 degree heat index pulls me back to reality. as a photographer fall is my busiest time of year. family portraits are a staple of my fall schedule but fall is also my busiest season as a mom. rilee is in her second season of competitive softball and lucee is a cheerleader. with sports taking over our weekends my weekend availability is very limited this year because as a mom i don’t want to miss out on these moments with my kids that will pass all too quickly. that being said, we have carved out a few weekends and even a weekday for some family mini sessions. our first date is this coming monday, which is labor day so the kids are all […]

it’s been almost two years since my last shoot with kansas city fashion blogger meg davey of chasing davies. i love having her in front of my camera because she has such a great, carefree style. her ability to mix colors and patterns is matched by none. during our fall 2012 family portrait session meg and her husband were a family of three joined by their sweet son liam. this year we did a summer mini session with their newest addition, daughter nora, who we all know is destined to by a fashion force just like her lovely mama. i love they way meg pulled together wardrobe for this shoot. she chose a few fun pops of color, Nike Pas Cher France, added in some texture and pattern and filled the gaps with great neutrals. this lady knows just what to wear for family portraits. check out our favorites from this darling mini session! be sure to head over to meg’s blog for loads of fashion inspiration and the latest on some really fun fashion events happening around town. her blog is a favorite of mine and i just love that she’s based right here in kc! and if you haven’t […]

mini sessions with these kiddos are always beyond amazing! their mama never ceases to amaze me with her killer style and the kids…well, they’re a photographer’s dream. always so cooperative and truly the sweetest. i love how over the top this hat is! and would you believe their mama made it? she’s super stylish and she’s super talented. she could write a book on what to wear for family photos. i think i may have her dress my crew for our next family portrait session! both heidi and i are crazy about animal print so you know we couldn’t pass up the zebra chair. it’s always great to hang with you and the kids, heidi! i just love collaborating with you and i can’t wait to see what you come up with next time! _____ we are currently booking spring and summer mini sessions. email us or call 913.787.2527 to schedule yours today!

the mccarthy family portraits – kansas city family photographer

by heathermorrow· January 30, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: family portraits, kansas city family photographer, what to wear for family portraits
there are no words to describe how much i adore the mccarthy family. they’ve been in front of my camera before and they’re a dream to photograph. their last family portrait session took place in the studio so we were excited to head outdoors for an urban session this time. mom and dad are gorgeous as are the boys. and they’re the perfect example of what to wear for family portraits. the whole family just has style. for days. but it was the boys personalities that really shined this during this shoot. they were hamming it up for the camera and i couldn’t stop clicking! every time i thought we were done the boys would go and do something else that was too cute to not document! see for yourselves in the bajillion images i’m about to post. love these profile shots! can’t get enough of their brotherly love. i swear this wasn’t planned. mayson just really, really loves his brother. no wonder their kids are so gorgeous. look at these two! what little boy doesn’t love to run and jump into his daddy’s arms? and just when i think this family couldn’t possibly be any happier or any more […]

clients, friends and family | kansas city family photographer

by heathermorrow· December 06, 2013· in Babies and Kids, Families, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: kansas city family photographer, kansas city family portraits, what to wear for family portraits
you’ve seen these little ones and their parents on the blog. a lot. in november 2005 their mama found me via google. emma’s first photo shoot took place when she was 3 months old and i’ve lost count on the number of portrait sessions we’ve done since. although marc and kristi started out as clients we quickly became friends and realized just how much we have in common. over the last 8 years we’ve spent a lot of time together. i’ve watched their daughter grow up, i was in the room when their son was born and i have the incredible honor of being his godmother. these were a couple of my favorite images from gavin’s newborn session and the one on the right is still one of my favorite newborn sibling shots ever. over the years chris and marc have grown just as close as kristi and i and our kids simply adore each other. marc and kristi are more than just our friends – they’re like family. i call kristi my sister from another mister and having the four of them in front of my camera feels like anything but work. here are just a few of my […]

ashley phelps for her life magazine

by heathermorrow· August 04, 2013· in Editorial, Families, Her Life Magazine, What to Wear for Family Portraits· 0 comments tags: ashley phelps, clique boutique, doubletake salon, her life magazine, jetcouture jewels, melissa evans, pkd, polycystic kidney disease
wow, am i behind in blogging…but what’s new? i loved shooting the july 2013 cover of her life magazine. cover girl ashley phelps is living with polycystic kidney disease but she’s fighting hard to kick it to the curb. ashley and i visited our friends at clique boutique to select her wardrobe and then, because i love styling almost as much as photographing, we hit h&m and picked up wardrobe for the rest of the family. by the way, did you hear you can now shop h&m online and that they’ve launched a crazy cool home collection? anyway, back to ashley…based on ashley’s outward appearance one might never know that she is sick. or just how sick she is. she’s endured numerous surgeries, seizures, a collapsed lung, an aneurysm and lives with a tremendous amount of pain. on a scale of one to ten, her pain is at a level of seven to eight most days. SEVEN to EIGHT! i’m the mom of two girls ages 9 and 10. i’m perfectly healthy and some days it’s a challenge for me to keep up with them. thinking of the challenges ashley faces in keeping up with and caring for her 3 […]

from erin and brian’s engagement session to their wedding to reese’s newborn session and now her two year session i’ve fallen in love with this adorable family. reese has literally grown up in front of my camera. in fact, i’ve photographed her every six months since she was born. her mama, being an amazing interior designer, came up with the idea to do a series of super close up 14×14 square canvases. she created a gorgeous gallery wall in their living room and i love how it’s come together. i love that my clients choose to decorate their home with my work. erin has a beautiful mix of art and family portraits in her home. she pulls it all together flawlessly and i can’t wait to add to the collection! our summer schedule is filling up fast so email or call us today to schedule your next family portrait session!

style friday with meg davey: three steps to styling with patterns

happy friday everyone! we are excited to have a guest post from one of our favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey.  meg dedicates her blog, chasing davies, to her evolving personal style and her new role as a mama. i’ve always loved meg’s eye for mixing patterns. she really inspires me to think differently about fashion and to see my own wardrobe in a new light. i had the opportunity to photograph meg and her darling little family last fall and as expected i was head over heels for the way the styled herself and her family.   for today’s style friday feature meg has cooked up a fabulous post to share three simple ways to mix and match patterns. i hope you enjoy! –H  Mixing patterns can be a daunting thought and overwhelming for many!  While I don’t know if there is any actual expertise in pattern mixing, I’d like to think I’ve played (and failed) with styling multiple patterns to know a thing or two.  Here are three easy steps to mixing prints. 1. My first piece of advice, just do it.  Play around with different clothing items in a dressing room or in the comfort of your own home […]
