baby farrah | kansas city newborn photographer

by heathermorrow· July 23, 2014· in Babies and Kids, Families, Studio· 0 comments
last time i photographed the mccarthy family they were a party of four. mom, dad and two dapper little dudes. fast forward several months and they’re now a party of five with a beautiful little lady for those proud big brothers to look after. i couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots of the boys while farrah was getting settled in. and can you believe we nailed the ultimate mission impossible photo of a newborn with siblings without having to composite multiple images? (thanks to janie and jennifer for assisting on this one.) with dad’s red hair, mom’s dark hair and the boys being blond everyone wasn’t sure what to expect with farrah. mom really wanted a red head and i think her wish may be granted. in the right light you can see a bit of a red tint in farrah’s hair. ryan is such a loving dad – a true family man. and erika is an amazing mama. she gets so much joy from her family. her face just lights up when she talks about them. i’ve loved watching the boys grow up over the past couple of years and i can’t wait to do the same with sweet […]

portrait of a dancer – kansas city headshots

by heathermorrow· February 27, 2014· in Headshots, Studio· 0 comments tags: ballet dancer, headshots
last month i received a call to photograph a dancer. this talented young man needed a new headshot and first arabesque photo for an upcoming audition with cincinnati ballet  and i knew this was something i wanted to shoot. meet john michael, a high school junior and long-time football player turned dancer. he’s got such a great look that i would imagine, if he wanted to, he could add model to that list of talents as well. john michael said that his athletic background certainly came in handy when he ventured in to dance four years ago but that it didn’t come easy. i can’t even begin to comprehend the discipline and strength required for ballet. which is why i’m just a runner. ha! what john michael needed for this audition was something clean and classic, but now that i’ve had a taste of photographing a dancer i’m dying to experiment with something a little different. hopefully i’ll get the chance to shoot his senior portraits next year and we can collaborate on something a little more outside the box. oh! and about that audition…apparently he nailed it because he was offered a full scholarship for a 5 week summer intensive […]

caty – kansas city senior portraits

by heathermorrow· September 17, 2013· in Seniors, Studio, What to Wear for Senior Portraits· 2 comments tags: beachy waves for senior portraits, black and white senior portaits, kansas city senior portraits, makeup artist melissa evans, what to wear for senior portraits
i have so many senior sessions to blog. this is one from last fall that i realized i never posted and it’s definitely a favorite of mine. if there was a poster child for what to wear for senior portraits, it would be caty. her wardrobe was amazing! she brought such a great mix of classic, trendy, casual and dressy and her choices were full of color and texture, which always photographs so well. if i could raid caty’s closet i totally would. caty has flawless skin so makeup artist and hair stylist melissa evans used warm tones to create a perfect sun-kissed glow that was fresh and youthful. after we left the studio we hit lots of great locations to create a variety of looks for caty. i loved this outfit – the mix of color, pattern and texture were perfect with these incredible green doors. one of my strengths as a photographer is posing but because caty is such a natural in front of the camera she really didn’t need much direction. i could have shot her all day! there really isn’t a color caty can’t pull of. and those shoes! i’m such a sucker for shoes. this series was […]

tiny little one – kansas city newborn photographer

by heathermorrow· May 06, 2013· in Babies and Kids, Studio· 0 comments tags: four generation portrait, kansas city newborn photography
this sweet little girl is the tiniest newborn i’ve ever photographed and she was so good to me! i had the privilege of photographing her gorgeous mama and daddy’s engagement and maternity sessions and i loved seeing them in their new role as parents. they’re madly in love with their precious little girl and it just melts my heart! the look of awe on daddy’s face says it all. she’s officially got him wrapped around her tiny little finger. her tiny little thumb between her two fingers is just as sweet as can be. this beautiful mama shares an amazing bond with her own mama and her grandma and i was so happy that we were able to get them to the studio to create a four generation portrait. i have a four generation portrait with rilee on my side of the family and chris’ and they’re such special photos to me. are you expecting? our calendar fills up quickly so it’s best to reach out to us early on in your pregnancy so we can scheduled a maternity session and pencil in your newborn session as well. know someone who’s expecting? a gift certificate for a newborn session is the […]

alexa – kansas city senior portrait photographer

by heathermorrow· May 02, 2013· in Seniors, Studio· 0 comments tags: kansas city senior portraits, makeup artist melissa evans
i love my high school seniors, especially this one. she also happens to be one of my cousins. we had a great time creating her senior portraits. shooting alexa was like looking back at myself in high school, without the hideous 90s hair and bad fashion. after melissa evans did hair and makeup we started with some studio portraits. i love our crisp white wall. it makes for such a clean, classic photo. the recycled pallet wall is always a hit. we also snuck it a few urban shots, which i love. and then we braved the wind and headed out to her family farm where we created some of my all-time favorite senior portraits. alexa had such a great wardrobe that we couldn’t narrow it down. our seniors love that we offer unlimited outfit changes. and this, my friends, is what we call the golden hour. that delicious sunset light just makes me squeal! now don’t let our genes fool you. i call myself a runner but alexa – she is a RUNNER. as in 5:30 mile RUNNER so i was really happy that she wanted to shoot in her cross country uniform. alexa is beautiful, smart, talented, driven and […]

a girl and her beloved horse – tiffany’s senior portraits

by heathermorrow· March 21, 2013· in Seniors, Studio· 0 comments tags: girl with a horse, melissa evans, senior portraits
meet my darling cousin tiffany, a class of 2013 senior. i adore her and everything about her senior portrait session! the fabulous melissa evans did tiffany’s hair and makeup. we started off with some studio portraits on the purple velvet sofa everyone loves. then we headed outside for some urban senior portraits.  and we ended our session at tiffany’s family farm with her beloved horse winnie. i’ve photographed several seniors with their horses and none were as cooperative as winnie. i love that first image so much. winnie seems so protective.  this last series was taken the day i photographed tiffany’s best friend ashley – she tagged along for some bff portraits that day and i couldn’t resist snappig a few shots of tiffany while ashley was changing. sweet tiffany, i can’t wait to see where life takes you after graduation. the whole world is at your fingertips and i know that no matter where the road leads, you’ll find success. lots of love, H if you’re a 2013 or 2014 senior and you go to school with tiffany, email or call us at 913.787.2527 to find out how you can save up to $200 on your own senior portrait session!
