Who doesn't love ice cream and firefighters? The Morrows do! And come to think of it, I don't think I've ever met a firefighter who doesn't love ice cream. I'll ask Chris, but I'm pretty sure that's a job requirement. Must be able to endure deadly temperatures. Must be able to carry a 200 pound man from a burning building. Must love ice cream. Stop by Baskin-Robbins, for 31 CENT SCOOP NIGHT in honor of America's Firefighters. On Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 5pm to 10pm participating stores will reduce prices of small ice cream scoops to 31 cents and Baskin-Robbins will make a $100,000 donation to the NVFC National Junior Firefighter Program. And at some locations you may also have an opportunity to make a donation to local fire charities. So, take your family out Wednesday night and support two things I truly love. Ice cream and firefighters. Not that anyone would need a reminder to go eat ice cream…but just in case you're not quite as die hard as me, you can text SCOOP to 31310 and they'll send a reminder to your cell phone. How cool is that? Peace, love and mint chocolate chip!H

I’ve donated both money and time to various charitable causes throughout the years, but none have touched me the way The Missouri Heart Gallery has. "The Heart Gallery was founded by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department in 2001 as a unique way to help children in foster care who are waiting for adoptive families step from the shadows into the light. Stirring portraits, which reveal the children’s amazing spirits and individuality, have helped many find permanent, loving homes." – from The Missouri Heart Gallery website For the first time, and certainly not the last, I joined in the efforts of The Heart Gallery by photographing a total of nine children in March. Over 200 children were photographed by 58 photographers this year. An exhibit of The Heart Gallery images travels across the state beginning in Kansas City in May and ending at the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City in November. This week I received word that five of the children I photographed have been given the gift every child deserves – a permanent, loving family. In all, 39 children have been adopted and the folks at The Adoption Exchange have responded to over 1800 inquiries…and […]

As many of you know my husband is a firefighter in Lawrence, Kansas. One of his fellow firefighters (or brothers, as they call one another) has family in Greensburg who lost everything they had in the recent tornado. Another of his brothers was called to Greensburg to assist the fire department in their recovery and re-building efforts. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy and I’m proud to say that my husband has put together an incredible charity event to benefit the Fire Department of Greensburg, Kansas. We’d love to have you join us next weekend for some fun and to give back to those in need. And for giving back you’ll also get back. Provide your bowling receipt from the event and we’ll give you $50 off your next session fee. Beat me in a game of bowling and we’ll also give you a complimentary 8×10 from that session. The event is open to everyone – even the kiddos. Bring the family. Bring your friends. Chris and I will be there off and on throughout the weekend and we hope to see you there! Visit our website for more details. To participate you must […]
