i’m so happy that the march issue of her life magazine is finally out and i can share these images. i photographed master gardener wendy clay at family tree nursery on one of the coldest days of the year. shooting inside the temperature controlled greenhouse was amazing! we all decided to pretend it was spring, even if only for a few hours. the light in the greenhouse was phenomenal and the color….don’t even get my started on the color. you can see for yourself how amazing it was, especially after drudging through these last few cold wintery months.
we had the usual suspects working together – melissa evans for makeup and amber sexton of double take salon for hair – but we also had someone new this time. we were lucky enough to score the wardrobe styling services of one of my favorite kansas city fashion bloggers, meg davey of chasing davies. be sure to check out meg’s blog for more details on the wardrobe provided by halls kansas city and some behind the scenes photos as well!
i loved shooting wendy and learning about her passion for gardening. i find myself in awe of those with a green thumb. i love plants and flowers but i’ve often sworn my thumbs are brown rather than green. wendy was kind enough to help me pick out a beautiful potted succulent arrangement before we left family tree and she guided me through the care process.
wendy, you’ll be pleased to know that 37 days later it’s still alive. quick! everyone! knock on wood, say a hail mary, cross your fingers and throw some salt over your shoulder!
between wardrobe changes i snapped a few photos of some of the lovely orchids. i wish i would have brought a macro lens. i just might have to go back for another visit. walking around the greenhouse was like it’s own form of therapy – so peaceful and calming. i totally get why wendy loves being outside and gardening. i just wish i had her skills.
and, of course, i had to squeeze in a little iphoneography. i’m only slightly obsessed with instagram. (you can follow me here.)
if you can’t find her life magazine around town check it out online at www.herlifemagazine.com. click on local editions and choose kansas city.
until next time,
