I Hate Goodbyes

If I've photographed you in the past year, you've likely met her.  She's a client, turned intern, turned dear, dear friend.  I was thrilled to get to photograph Genna in the summer of 2009 and even more thrilled to learn she had an interest in photography.

It wasn't long into her senior portrait session when I offered her my 2009-2010 intern position.  She's been invaluable to me this last year, taking time to join me for so many sessions.  She's a very talented photographer an absolutely incredible young woman.

We've spent a lot of time shooting, editing, grabbing late-night dinners, chatting about photography and our love of food, fashion, music, iPhone apps and….just life in general.  We've got a lot in common and we've had a great time getting to know one another.  I've been blessed to have her in my life and I'm not the only one who adores her.  My girls are simply crazy for her, too!  Genna and her mom are like family to us.

The three of us had a lovely dinner tonight.

In a couple of days Genna will head off to college and while I will miss her dearly, I can't wait to see what life has in store for her.  She will do great things.  I just know she will.

I hate goodbyes, so I'll just say this…Genna, you are amazing in every way.  You are wise and strong, you are beautiful and kind and you are a gift to those who have the privilege of knowing you.  Stay true to who you are and please, please stay in touch.

With lots of love,
H

i watched this girl grow up and turn into a beauti i watched this girl grow up and turn into a beautiful young woman. she works hard, loves unconditionally and like me, loves vintage clothing. so it only felt right to give her my vintage @gap dress from the #90s to wear in her #seniorportraits. i bought this dress in my 20s and i’m so glad i held on to it for all these years (don’t make me count them 😎). it fit leksi’s style and personality so well and i’m so glad someone is getting some use out of it.
my children are 16 and 18 and i have absolutely no my children are 16 and 18 and i have absolutely no business coming down with a case of baby fever but i just can’t help it. one look at this sweet little face and it’s easy to see why i’m currently trying to talk my husband into another one. and before you start asking - he said no. 😭 so bring me all your squishy newborn babies to photograph. please and thanks. 🧡
a few favorites from a pre-covid @duofit_maternity a few favorites from a pre-covid @duofit_maternity shoot. founder @klwperry thoughtfully created this line of #maternity #activewear that is both designed and produced right here in #kansascity. and it’s getting rave reviews from mamas to be as well as those postpartum.
i fell in love with photography as a way of storyt i fell in love with photography as a way of storytelling. by nature, i am a very curious person. i love nothing more than meeting new people and discovering what makes them tick, what sets them apart. this is probably why i have such a love of shooting branding photos. ⁣

i’ve told many stories over my 17 year career and this is one that sticks with me and has influenced me. ⁣

meet @haileebwalsh, owner of @citygymkc. she’s a business woman, a trainer, a devoted wife, an adoring auntie, an activist and a champion of so many people and causes. she is never afraid to stand up for what is right, whether it’s easy or not. she doesn’t give up and she doesn’t give in. and in case you hadn’t noticed, she’s built like a brick shit house. and so fun to work with! ⁣

if you’ve never met hailee, follow her online, watch what she’s up to and get to know her. she’s inspiring and always doing big things with big love!
